Name: Merritt Wagoner
Birth Date: January 17, 1976
Family: Married wife, Nancy and son, Merritt Jr.
Profession: Criminal Defense Attorney
How I Became a Triathlete: Four score and seven years ago…..I met a guy named Patrick Farwell and he had just completed his first triathlon. Since both of us worked out at the Wilmington Athletic Club I started training with him and decided that I wanted to do a triathlon. I registered for the Azalea Triathlon and completed it. After that I was hooked and have been enjoying the triathlon lifestyle ever since.
Balancing Family, Training, and Work: I typically get up between 4:00 and 5:00 a.m. and get a couple hours of training in before work. This way I am able to be at work on time. My wife is very supportive of my training and I try to schedule races in vacation destinations so that she is able to reap some benefits of all of my training as well.
Good Training Tip: Ask Todd Styles.
Races I am Proud Of: Finishing the Ford Ironman Arizona in 96 degree heat and 20 mph winds in 13:28 and finishing the B2B half-iron distance race in 5:12
Inspirations: Nancy, Merritt, Jr. and my grandfather, Charles W. Merritt
