I met Glenn McCarroll at my work place and he started to train me just for fitness. In January 2008, he gave me swimming lessons. I could not even put my face in the water without inhailing water through my nose. As he was teaching me the basics of free style swming, he told me, "why don't you get a bike and do a Triathlon. You are already swimming and running." I said, "Ok, I'll do it. What is a Triathlon any way?" So then I signed up for the YWCA Triathlon 2008.
It took several times before I stopped panicking in the ocean. I was rescued a few times. One month before the race, I got over my panic attacks and I did it.
I do my training in the mornings before work or school. I schedule my workouts a week in advance and I stick to the plan. I work on homework, between classes and after work. I allow time before bed for family and to get ready for the next day. I maintain a healthy diet and make sure I get at least 7 hours of sleep. I take naps when I get a chance.
What works for me is discipline. I stick to the plan and do it. There is no time to be wasted. The busier we are the more we can get done. Everything fits in a tiny jar if you know how to place everything inside in the right spot.
I am proud of the YMCA 2009 Triathlon. I improved 12 minutes from my previous race. Also had my 1st podium finish at the Esmerald Isle Triathlon last 10-09 with 2nd place in my age group.
