Shawn Spencer

Having lived and worked in Wilmington his whole life, Shawn enjoys the amenities the area has to offer. "Riding a bicycle allows me to take in my surroundings on a different level." Shawn's passion is spending time with his family as his two children grow and learn. He enjoys the smile customers have when they find the perfect bicycle fit for their lifestyle! Shawn has been racing triathlons, duathlons, multisport events, marathons, ultramarthons, mountain bike races and 24 hour mountain bike events for over 17 years. The past few years he has achieved the honor of being ranked as an All American in the USAT rankings. Having participated in so many events has given him the knowledge base to help the customer pick the bike for All the Cycles of Your Life. (FIST certified)

Melanie Spencer
It all started in the summer of 1993 with a crush on the boy at the bike shop. Now,15 yrs. 2 dogs, and 2 kids later, Melanie & Shawn are living out the dream they wrote on paper while dating. "To one day own our own Bicycle shop where people love to come." Melanie has worked in the pharmaceutical industry for 11 yrs. but now spends most of her time with the kids and helping out at the bike shop whenever she can. Trying not to be the token "bosses wife", she is working mainly on our Triathlon Training Camp and Special customer events.

Kaylin Hessler
A junior at UNCW and an avid cyclist, Kaylin is new to the North Carolina tri series. She is a member of the college's triathlon team with many races under her belt, including races in the cold waters of Long Island. Now living in Wilmington, she continues to train and strives to improve her racing at every chance she gets. "I love that feeling I get after a great race." Kaylin is proud to be on the team at Bike Cycles. She looks forward to helping anyone find the right bike and gear to make their cycling experience all it can be. Charlie George
Charlie is a local, born in Burgaw, with a deep love for the area and bicycling. After graduating from Cape Fear Community College, he moved to Charlotte and became a Police Officer. While in Charlotte he had the opportunity to help start a bicycle patrol unit at UNC Charlotte. Charlie was responsible for the maintenace and up-keep of the unit's bikes. He became an instructor and assisted in starting bike patrol units on other campuses and municipalities. He moved back to the area to work for the Division of Community Corrections as a probation officer. While he was there he assisted in creating a bicycle unit to assist Carolina Beach Police during peak tourist season. He is currently training for his first triathlon at Wrightsville Beach Triathlon. Glenn McCarroll
Glenn is the motivator. He has compleated multiple iron distance triathlons, including Iron Man Hawaii. He is very versed in the training and fitness required to go the distance in a race. Justin Berrier
Hailing from Benson, North Carolina, Justin has had many jobs over his short lifespan. From being a pool chemist to working on go-cart engines, Justin is a jack of all trades and master of none. His goals for the year are to break into the tri circuit and compete in his first races. Graduating also fits in there somewhere...

Mike Ruskin
Long time Wilmington bicycle mechanic, Mike brings to Bike Cycles a high level of bicycle expertise. A human nurse day job, bike doctor when he works at Bike Cycles. Ask him a question.....he has the knowledge.

Todd Collins
Todd comes to Bike Cycles via Pinehurst. Todd ran cross country in high school and is honing his skills as a a triathlete. He is our tall staff person able to reach things without even a bound.... Look for him on the local race scene and ask him about his new Specialized Allez Pro and his 4 minute mile he is going to run.

Ben Rachunok
Ben is the student all parents wish they had. An all around great guy, he brings to Bike Cycles the youth and drive to inspire us all to live life. Ben's newest bike is a Raleigh 29er+G...watch for him on the trails, or rather watch out for him on the trails...

Jeff Bopp
Hailing from Champaign , Illinois , Jeff is a midwest boy through and through. Having lived in Wilmington for the past five years however has converted him into a huge fan of the coastal climate, and has introduced him to the sports of cycling and triathlon. He anxiously awaits his first multi-sport event at Kure Beach in June.

Derek Wilson
Derek Wilson is a new resident of Wilmington, only having lived here for about a month. Coming from Chapel Hill, he has been a bike mechanic for five years and enjoys every minute of it. He is most excited when riding single speed bikes as well as "silly little BMX bikes."
